Welcome to WIMS Parents Forum

  • WIMS...Walking in My Shoes (www.wimsparents.ca) started in October 2009 as a parent support group for parents of children with developmental delays/disabilities in Ottawa, Canada. Monthly meetings  have brought together many parents/guardians as well as interest from others who were unable to attend meetings. At the meetings parents have the opportunity  to meet  others who have similar concerns, experiences and feelings related to their child’s special needs, to share information and learn about resources and processes from each other. Through emails parents receive information on resources, workshops, and are able to ask questions to those on the email list.

In keeping with the WIMS model of "parents helping parents" and through the initiative of a parent an online forum is launched  to allow parents another (and for some) a more accessible venue  to connect and network and to provide  those families who cannot attend groups an opportunity to develop a supportive community. Such topics as education, access to services, respite and other issues directly related to our children's needs can be addressed. WIMS brings families together to share information and support one another. The launch of the forum is October 2011 and we hope it will provide you with a supportive network.

No New Posts Respite

Finding a capable caregiver who can care for your child and understand his/her needs can be a challenge. Not everyone has family or friends nearby or who are comfortable enough to spend time with your child while you attend meetings, go shopping, or just relax. This is where you can ask others for recommendations or references of people or agencies who offer respite.
