November 16th WIMS meeting....What about the Siblings? Parents with more than one child often wonder how the siblings will be affected by growing up with a brother or sister with special needs. It sometimes feels like a balancing act trying to meet everyone’s needs while not completely neglecting your own. Being aware of how much information to share about the disability, the siblings’ concerns at various ages and what feelings are completely normal can make a difference. Barb Juett, a Social Worker at the Ottawa Children’s Treatment Centre, will be a guest facilitator at the November 16th WIMS meeting. Ms. Juett will facilitate a discussion and offer suggestions to parents to help understand each child’s reactions and needs. |
